w3 total cache page caching issue

I'm trying to get W3 Total cache plugin to do page caching (in addition to minify, cdn etc) but for starters I'm not even able to get the page cache to work. It appears W3 cache does appear to create a cache copy of the page however it doesnt create a 'full' copy. i.e. when I compare it to a uncached page source code in the front end with the cached copy, its quite different ( cached copy is missing a bunch of HTML, JS etc).
I checked and ensured both wp-config.php and wp-content/ have 777 permissions.
Any help/pointers would be appreciated.
