What is the most effective metric or set of metrics for software reliability?

0

I have seen statements, such as those in http://www.ijiset.com/v1s3/IJISET_V1_I3_24.pdf that software reliability is inversely proportional to code complexity. While this may be true for monolithic software, does this rule of thumb actually hold for modular software exhibiting high coherence and low coupling?

Furthermore, the paper referenced above does not speak of the contributions of programming languages to software reliability, whether for better or for worse.
