Usage of Lonekorean textarea highlight not working

I use: https://github.com/lonekorean/highlight-within-textarea

I have got the CSS and the jquery file attached

<textarea class="myta hwt-input hwt-content hwt-content mark" name="inp_resp_1" id="inp_resp_1" rows="10" style="font-size:0.9em;width:100%"></textarea>

Jquery part is

$('textarea.myta').highlightWithinTextarea(
highlight: 'cat'
);
$('textarea.myta').highlightWithinTextarea('update');

There are two issues

  1. The resultant textarea is shrinking

  2. The highlighting is not fitting in (probably because of shrinking?)

Screenshots below

After
