iOS: Checking m3u8 if have stream by AVPlayer

I develop an iOS app that play a live stream of m3u8 type by AVPlayer, every thing work well of playing and stopping player when there are a stream "On air", but how to check if the URL don't have stream i.e. "off air", and how to observe my streaming when changed from "on air" to "off air"?
