what is the best way to make analytic api calls without degrading user experience?

0

I am building webapp and needs to send analytic events on every user action.

I am currently doing it by making a XHR request to the analytic-api (fire and forget) in a setTimeout on the click or similar events.

there will be some events like:

  • The app will be making heart beat api calls which is as frequent as
    1000 milliseconds

  • The app will also be making analytic api call while user is watching
    a video whenever a new fragment is downloaded by player.

e.g.

function userClickedSegment()
//... making the POST call

setTimeout(userClickedSegment, 10);

I do not want to hamper the user expirence that's why I am calling the api after some milliseconds.

If you know any better way to do the same please suggest. Also is there a way to handover the api calling task to service worker or a background thread and should it be done?
