Early life

Lozada was born in Brooklyn to Nengo Lozada[5] and Sylvia Ferrer, Lozada was raised with her sister in the Bronx by her mother.[6] Lozada is of Puerto Rican ancestry.[7][8] She moved to Miami in 2007. She worked as a secretary to an entertainment attorney, and later became co-owner of Dulce, a shoe boutique located in Coral Gables, Florida. Lozada was also raised as a Roman Catholic. In season 6, episode 11 of Basketball Wives, Lozada visits her mother's house and shows her communion picture.[9]

Career

Lozada starred in Basketball Wives,[10] a reality series that follows the wives, ex-wives, and girlfriends of professional basketball players. Another reality television show, Ev and Ocho, which had been planned to follow the lives of her and former husband Chad Johnson, never aired.[11] Lozada is the center of a third reality television series, Livin' Lozada, with Shaniece Hairston (b. June 16, 1993),[12][13] her grown daughter from another relationship. Lozada and her brand strategist, Courtney Parker, wrote the 2012 novel The Wives Association: Inner Circle. Released by Cash Money Content books, the novel follows a young woman who marries a football star and then forms a group of other sports wives - The Wives Association.[14][15] In September 2012, Lozada appeared on the television show Iyanla: Fix My Life where she discussed her personal life and sought emotional healing with Iyanla Vanzant.[10] In December 2012, she posed for PETA's "I'd Rather Go Naked than Wear Fur" campaign.[16]

Personal life

Lozada was engaged to NBA star Antoine Walker with whom she had a ten-year relationship with from 1998 until 2008.[17][18] On November 16, 2010, Chad Johnson (whose name was Chad Ochocinco at that time) proposed to Lozada, they had been dating since earlier in the year.[19] On July 4, 2012, she married Johnson in Saint Martin.[20] On August 11, 2012, Johnson was arrested on a charge of domestic battery according to the Davie, Florida police.[21][22] On August 14, 2012, Lozada filed for divorce claiming that her marriage was “irretrievably broken”[23] and the divorce was finalized on September 19, 2012.[24][25] On September 21, 2012, Johnson entered a plea of no contest to misdemeanor domestic battery, avoiding jail time in an agreement with prosecutors and Lozada.[26] Johnson received a year of probation.[27] Lozada began dating Carl Crawford in 2013. In December 2013, Lozada and Crawford announced their engagement.[28] She gave birth to their son in 2014.[29] In August 2017, the couple called off the engagement.[30][31]
