Kafka Streaming DSL

I have a JSON data as String in a topic and would like to consume and update value for few fields based on a defined logic and then put back into some other topic. Here, trying to make it property/DB driven for the fields to be updated and the logic to be used.
I could use Groovy script for defining the logic and store it in DB and could use it in streaming. Is there any other better way/approach with Kafka Streaming DSL?

I am not sure if I understand the question, but if you want to consume data from Kafka and process it including state handling, the most natural choice seems to be Kafka's Streams API: kafka.apache.org/20/documentation/streams
