Gitlab registry connection refused

0

Let me start by saying that I have recently been placed in charge of our Gitlab server since it is Linux and everyone else is Windows. :)

I have successfully setup HTTPS connection, opened port 5000 on our firewall and have a green light beside "Container Registry" under the admin page on our web interface. However, if I try to add registry_external_url 'https://server.domain:5000' to the /etc/gitlab/gitlab.rb file and reconfigure gitlab the entire site goes down. Other settings configured in the /etc/gitlab/gitlab.rb file are to get https working:

external_url 'https://SERVER'
nginx['redirect_http_to_https'] = true
nginx['ssl_certificate'] = "/etc/gitlab/ssl/server.domain.crt
nginx['ssl_certificate_key'] = "/etc/gitlab/ssl/server.domain.key
