Symbol lookup error when launching protoc

0

I am trying to build TensorFlow for Raspberry Pi (running Raspbian GNU/Linux 9 stretch) following the instructions at https://github.com/tensorflow/tensorflow/tree/master/tensorflow/contrib/makefile

After building Protocol Buffers according to:

cd tensorflow/contrib/makefile/downloads/protobuf/
./autogen.sh
./configure
make
sudo make install
sudo ldconfig # refresh shared library cache

when launching protoc I get the following error:

% /usr/local/bin/protoc
/usr/local/bin/protoc: symbol lookup error: /usr/local/bin/protoc: undefined symbol: _ZN6google8protobuf8compiler20CommandLineInterface12AllowPluginsERKSs

Any suggestion on which steps to take to fix the issue (note I posted the question also here: https://raspberrypi.stackexchange.com/questions/90835/symbol-lookup-error-when-launching-protoc)?
