Workflow Horizontal hierarchical layout in D3

0

I am new to d3 and trying to implement a workflow layout that would look something like this.
enter image description here

The layout needs to collapse and expand as in this tree example https://bl.ocks.org/d3noob/43a860bc0024792f8803bba8ca0d5ecd

To be honest I am quite lost at what would be the best approach, I have seen this force directed graphs option http://bl.ocks.org/GerHobbelt/3669455 , but I need to have the nodes in a fixed position as in the tree example.

Thanks for the help.
